The very first garment I made was when I was 9 years old. I took my mother's expensive piece of batik fabric that she bought from Indonesia and cut a huge hole in the centre, folded the rest back as if it was untouched. This was a two-piece garment - a sleeveless top and cropped pants.
Since then I was constantly looking for fabrics to make new garments when an idea strikes. Due to the lack of resources at my age then, I had to look into old clothing to re-use the fabric to make new garments.
The birth of my label speaks of my love for thinking out of the box despite the limited resources to create my pieces. This is represented by my choice of logo - desert roses.
Legend has it that the rose exists in the desert as a sign of God to all who are lost, exhausted with hunger and thirst, and no matter how tough it is, you always find strength in the beautiful moments that stand in your way.
For me, the desert rose represents hope, dedication & perseverance!
